Accessibility Statement
Sewa Care Australia's commitment to web accessibility, our WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance status, known limitations, and how to report a barrier.
Last updated
This document is under review. It accurately describes our current practices, but has not yet been reviewed by a legal practitioner. If anything here is unclear or appears wrong, pleasetell us — we would rather fix it than leave it.
We are a disability services provider. A website that is difficult for people with disability to use would undermine everything else we say about ourselves, so we treat accessibility as a requirement rather than an enhancement.
Conformance status
This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
Current status: partially conformant. That means most of the site meets the standard, and we are aware of the areas listed below that do not yet fully meet it or have not yet been independently verified.
We publish this honestly rather than claiming full conformance, because a claim we have not tested is not worth making.
How we test
- Automated testing on every change, using axe-core against every page in our build pipeline. A failure blocks the release.
- Automated colour contrast verification of the design system itself, so an inaccessible colour cannot be introduced by editing a design token.
- HTML validation on every built page.
- Manual keyboard testing — every interactive element must be reachable and operable without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator.
- Screen reader testing with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on iOS.
Automated tools reliably catch only about a third of accessibility problems. The manual keyboard and screen reader passes are the evidence that matters, and we do not treat a green automated run as conformance.
What we have done
- Text is 18px by default with a 1.6 line height, larger than the common 16px
- All text meets at least 4.5:1 contrast; most exceeds 7:1 (Level AAA)
- Every interactive target is at least 44×44 pixels
- A visible focus indicator on every focusable element — we never remove outlines
- A skip-to-content link at the top of every page
- Correct heading hierarchy and landmark regions on every page
- Every form field has a persistent visible label, not just placeholder text
- Form errors are announced to screen readers and linked to the field
- All images have meaningful alternative text, or are marked decorative
- The page language is declared as Australian English
- Animation respects
prefers-reduced-motion - No carousels, no auto-playing media, no content that moves on its own
- The site works with JavaScript disabled, including the contact forms
- Tested against Windows High Contrast mode
Known limitations
- Third-party spam protection. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile. We have configured the accessible variant, but we do not control its internals. If Turnstile prevents you from submitting a form, please phone us instead — the phone number is at the top of every page — and we will take your details that way.
- Screen reader coverage. We test with NVDA and VoiceOver. We have not tested with JAWS, TalkBack or Dragon.
- Embedded maps. Google Maps is frequently difficult to use with a screen reader, and we do not control it. For that reason the map never loads automatically, and every page with a map states the address as text and offers a plain “Get directions” link. You never need to interact with the map itself to get the information it contains.
- Independent audit. This site has not yet been audited by an external accessibility specialist.
Easy Read
We are working towards Easy Read versions of our key pages. If you need information about our services in Easy Read, large print, or another format, contact us and we will provide it.
Reporting a barrier
If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as a priority.
- Phone us — the number is at the top of every page
- Email us — see our contact page
- Have someone contact us on your behalf — that is completely fine
Please tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use assistive technology, telling us which one helps us reproduce the problem.
We will acknowledge your report within 2 business days and tell you what we intend to do about it.
Formal complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Australian Human Rights Commission, which handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992:
- Phone: 1300 656 419
- Website: humanrights.gov.au/complaints
