This is the core role at Sewa Care. You will be supporting a small, consistent group of people — the same faces each week — with whatever their plan covers: personal care, domestic assistance, getting to appointments, and being part of their community.

What the work actually involves

Most shifts are two to four hours in someone’s home or out in the community. You will help with things like showering and dressing, preparing a meal, tidying up, driving someone to an appointment, or simply going for a coffee with a person who does not get out much.

It is not glamorous and it is not always easy. It is, reliably, work that matters.

What we ask of a support worker

Turn up when you said you would. Do what you said you would do. Tell us straight away when something is not right — with a client, with a shift, or with you.

Transport is often the single support that determines whether someone attends their medical appointment or misses it. The role is simple to describe and demanding to do well: be there when you said, get them there on time, and wait without making them feel rushed.

The runs

Most trips are within Bunbury and the surrounding suburbs, with regular longer runs from Harvey and the outer shire in for specialist appointments — up to around 120 km.

What we ask of a driver

Punctuality above everything. Help with the vehicle, mobility aids and bags. Stay for the appointment where the client has asked for accompaniment. And never leave someone waiting because a booking window closed.

Drivers are paid a vehicle allowance on top of the SCHADS Award rate, and the runs are regular rather than scattered one-offs.

Personal care is the most intimate support we provide, and the role calls for someone who can make it feel ordinary rather than awkward.

What the work involves

Supporting clients with showering, dressing, grooming, continence and medication prompting — typically as part of a regular morning or evening routine. You will be allocated a consistent group of clients so you get to know how each person likes things done.

What we ask of a personal care worker

Respect for privacy, without exception. Ask before you act. Never rush someone through their own morning. Report anything that concerns you — a pressure area, a change in mood, a fall risk — the same day.

You will have a consistent client allocation, ongoing training in manual handling, infection control and dementia support, and clinical backup from our Registered Nurse coordinator.
